Abstract:
The theological anthropology of the body is the crucial question of John Paul II’s teaching. The truth about human corporality, based on Divine Revelation and filosofical reflection, constituted the core or framework for the Polish Pope’s original anthropology, one fruit of which are the catecheses on theology of the body. This article presents the significance of the human body in three human experiences, which also adequately characterize three periods of the history of salvation. These experiences are natura integra, lapsa, redempta. The presentation of the human body’s identity is the personalistic in nature, rooted in biblical teaching. The human heart is where Christ’s appeal is received and where each person formulates his response. It is the call to live the virtue of chastity (Mt 5:27-28), by which we subordinate corporal dynamisms to the real nature of person, according to the law of the Gospel.
