Abstract

The article presents the "diary" of the Latin Rite Archbishop of Lviv, Jozef Bilczewski. It contains a description of various events of the years 1900-1921. In the light of the above-mentioned source, the author of the article has shed light on the fate of the Greek Catholic hierarchy and the history of the Greek Catholic Church at the beginning of the 20th century. Archbishop Bilczewski was an excellent observer of people and their actions. He treated the Greek Catholic Church, its hierarchy, clergy and faithful with great sympathy, but not without criticism. He was able to see values and virtues, but he did not close his eyes to errors and hypocrisies. He was able to reconcile the universality of his episcopal office with a deep sense of patriotism.
