Bishop Marian Rechowicz was born on September 4, 1910 in Husiatyn on the Zbruch River. In 1928, he graduated from the Secondary School with a bachelor's degree. Henryk Sienkiewicz in Lviv. After graduating from high school in Lviv, he entered the theological seminary in that city. seminar. In 1933, after studying philosophy, theology and history at the University of Jean Casimir, was ordained a priest in the church of St. Archbishop Bolesław Twardowski. In 1939, he obtained a doctorate in theology based on a thesis on the history of the Church. In 1945, he joined the theological seminary, which was moved to Kalwaria Zebrzydowska near Krakow. In the same year, he was appointed assistant at the Jagiellonian University. In 1947 he obtained his habilitation, and in 1950 he became a professor at the Catholic University of Lublin. where in 1952 he became deputy dean and then dean of the Faculty of Theology. In the years 1956-1965 he was rector. In 1975 he retired. Two years earlier, in 1973, he was appointed capitular vicar of the archbishopric of Lubaczów, and then consecrated bishop and appointed apostolic administrator in Lubaczów on December 31 of the same year. He died on September 28, 1983 in Lublin and was buried in Lubaczów. He was the author of numerous works on the history of the Church and an expert on the Middle Ages. In his research on the Middle Ages, he focused on four issues: the history of the Eastern Church in Poland, the history of the Church in Poland, the history of clergy education, the history of theology in Poland and studies on the concept of the university, to which he devoted numerous articles. He is the founder of the Polish school of studies on the history of theology and religious culture, conducted according to his research method.
