Abstract

Among the volumes of the parish library in Działoszyce near Pińczów there is a collection of sermons by Piotr de Beze published in Cologne in 1629. It turned out that the binding of the old print contained a musical manuscript. After removing it, it turned out that it was made of parchment. The shapes and typical features of the letters suggest that we are dealing with a Gothic texture, and the time of creation of this manuscript can approximately be dated to the 15th or 16th centuries. Unfortunately, the manuscript has been preserved in very poor condition. Most of the words have been blurred, especially those fragments found on the fold of the binding. The Działoszyce monument contains the texts and melodies of one sequence in its entirety and fragments of two others. The manuscript from Działoszyce is a small fragment of an old gradual. It is also a testimony to the equipment of parish libraries.
