Zygmunt Otto (1874-1944), a Polish sculptor mainly active in Warsaw, designed sculptures and reliefs for the Basilica of Our Lady of Sorrows in Limanowa. On the main façade of the church there are, among others, the Crucifixion Group, Our Lady of Sorrows, and a representation of Mary with seven swords in her heart, which is the equivalent of the Crucifixion Group. In the external niches of the chapels there are statues of Saints Stanisław Kostka and Casimir Jagiellończyk. The interior of the church is decorated with, among others, a triumphal group, referring to the motif of the Crucifixion Group on the façade, reliefs in the backs of the confessionals depicting the sacrament of penance, and reliefs in the choir stalls showing Our Lady of Sorrows and the evangelist John on the way to the tomb of Christ and the Risen One. Zygmunt Otto's works for the Basilica in Limanowa are mature works of the artist. The text supplements the artist's biography with works that have previously been unknown to art historians.
