When Stanisław Stojałowski position as a priest began to be questioned, he decided to seek accommodation with the church hierarchy. To clarify his position, in 1901-02 he wrote a series of letters to Józef Bilczewski, recently appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Lviv. The tone of his letters is by no means rebellious: he gives in on matters of church discipline and expresses an intention to cooperate with his critics and enemies in the field of Catholic relief work.
