This article discusses the 1965 rite in terms of the renewal of the liturgy of the word, known at that time as the Mass of the Catechumens. At that time, the first modifications to this part of the Mass liturgy were made, as postulated by the conciliar Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, thus leading to a general reform of the liturgy of the word (both in terms of modifications to the rites and in terms of a new selection of biblical texts). The article presents only ritual issues, drawing attention to the new wording of the rubrics, the introduction of new places of celebration (pulpits and presiding places) into sacred architecture, and the addition of homilies and universal prayers to the Mass. The content of the publication has been divided into four thematic chapters, discussing in turn the individual modifications to this part of the Mass: 1) general norms concerning the celebration of the liturgy of the word; 2) modifications to certain ceremonies of the liturgy of the word; 3) the introduction of homilies into the liturgy of the word; 4) the introduction of universal prayer into the liturgy of the word. This was done in order to draw attention to the first fruits of liturgical renewal, which, in a sense, “paved the way” for future general reform.
