The Author analyzes the requirements for the office of chancellor of the diocesan curia indicated by the legislator in the Code of Canon Law of 1983 (can. 483 § 2) and in the Directory for the Pastoral Ministry of Bishops Apostolorum successores issued by the Congregation for Bishops (no 180). According to these prescripts the member of the faithful who is entrusted with the office of chancellor must be of good reputation and above all suspicion, with canonical ability and experience in the management of administrative affairs.
