Jerzy Radziwiłł was Bishop of Cracow in 1591-1600. His Pastoral Letter was published in 1593 together with the constitutions adopted by the diocesan synod of that year to bring the legislation of the Cracow diocese into line with the requirements and directives of the Tridentine Council. The aim of the letter, addressed to the parochial clergy, was to explain the post-Tridentine legal norms and to point out their practical application in pastoral work. The composition of the letter is clearly subordinated to its principal objectives.
