The figure of Bishop Henryk Grzondziela, suffragan bishop of Opole in 1959-1968, deserves attention above all for the combination of important elements of his native upbringing and piety with the holding of various ecclesiastical positions, up to the episcopal dignity. This article begins with an overview of his family background, his childhood and the period of his studies as a future bishop. The second part deals with his ministry in the diocese of Wroclaw in the years 1923-1945. The next part presents his work in the Archdiocese of Wroclaw in the years 1945-1953. Finally, Henryk Grzondziela's activity in the Diocese of Opole in the years 1953-1968 is described.
