A distinguished Sister of Charity and pharmacist, S. Filipina Studzińska (1797—1877) was a pioneer in the field of monastic pharmacy and hospital medicine in Poznań. In 1824, she obtained a university diploma in pharmacy, becoming the first woman in Poland to hold such a title. Her achievement took place at a time when public opinion criticized Polish monastic pharmacies for the lack of appropriate education and professional control. Together with her sister Konstancja, also a Sister of Charity, Sr. Filipina Studzińska undertook pharmaceutical studies at the Jagiellonian University. Despite the negative opinions of some professors, both sisters obtained their diplomas, becoming the first certified pharmacists in Poland. Their skills and professionalism allowed them to deflect criticism and gain respect in the profession. After obtaining her diploma, Sr. Filipina Studzińska took charge of the hospital pharmacy in Poznań, where she managed medicines sparingly and educated subsequent generations of sister pharmacists. Her organizational activities contributed to the development of hospital services in the region, and cooperation with doctors and nurses brought good results. Sr. Filipina Studzińska also served as superior in the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity in Poznań, taking care of the development of the order and establishing new houses in the province. Her dynamic actions and open attitude towards all patients, regardless of religion or social status, earned her social respect and had a positive impact on the development of hospitalization and pharmacy in the region.
