The article analyzes the presence of Benedictions, i.e. liturgical books for bishops containing formulas of blessing used during pontifical masses, in Poland before the Council of Trent (1545-1564). The author examines whether the Church in Poland had such books before the adoption of Christianity in the country and what their forms might have been. Due to the small number of preserved sources, mainly library inventories, it is difficult to clearly determine whether there were Benedictional churches in Poland before the Council of Trent. There are mentions of several liturgical books, but their nature is not clearly defined. Some researchers suggest that some of them may have been rituals intended for priests rather than Benedictions for bishops. Analysis of several manuscripts indicates differences in their purpose and character. However, due to the lack of sufficient data, there remains much uncertainty as to the type and function of liturgical books used in Poland before the Council of Trent.
