The legislator in the 1983 Code of Canon Law states that all persons both believers and non-believers are bound to seek the truth in those things which regard God and his Church and by virtue of divine law are bound by the obligation and possess the right of embracing and observing the truth which they have come to know (can. 748 § 1). Furthermore no one is ever permitted to coerce persons to embrace the Catholic faith against their conscience (§ 2). Freedom of conscience and religion comes from the dignity of the human person. The religious freedom is undersood in the internal aspect as the freedom of conscience and in the external one as the freedom of religion. The entities entitled to the freedom of conscience and religion are every human being, family and religious communities.
