The cantatas of Johann Sebastian Bach are the subject of research by both musicologists and theologians. The aim of the article is to search for the spiritual dimension of selected Church cantatas of the Leipzig cantor. At the beginning, basic information was provided about the cantata as a vocal-instrumental genre and the history of the development of Bach's cantata. Then, the following Church cantatas were presented: "Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir" (BWV 131), "Himmelskönig, sei willkommen" (BWV 182), "Wo gehest du hin?" (BWV 166), "Was willst du dich betrüben" (BWV 107), Vergnügte Ruh, beliebte Seelenlust "(BWV 170). The main subject of the study based on the German and Polish texts and elements of a musical work was the content of God's revelation contained in the compositions. An important point of reference was the idea of baroque musical rhetoric. As a result of the research carried out, it was found the presence of the spiritual dimension of the cantatas and their usefulness in transmitting and receiving the content of God's revelation, as well as shaping the inner life.
