Since the Middle Ages, the existence of church institutions was guaranteed by land grants, which was also common in the case of the Catholic Church in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania from the end of the 14th century. The condition of the church land of the Vilnius diocese in 1653 was recorded in the tax principality achieved in vol. 101 of Our Past. The publication presents the process of shaping church estates in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and contains the most important sources on this topic. The register from 1673, kept in the Lithuanian State Historical Archives in Vilnius, was compiled after serious damage resulting from the Polish-Russian conflict in 1654-1667. The enormity of the losses becomes apparent from public records from 1673 to those from 1653. The number of farms on bishop's estates dropped from 3,776 to 1,606, and on the estates of suffragan bishops the losses reached 68%. In 1653, the chapter had 2,908 compulsory farms, and in 1673 their number dropped to 1,033. Problems with the reliability of registration data were also discussed in the literature. This edition is available with the standards developed in the editorial manual. The accounting book from 1673 is irreplaceable for researchers dealing with the case of the Vilnius bishopric. We have the opportunity to publish this material in Polish. Research and research tools are available.
