The present sketch is dedicated to St Swirrad, hermit, eremite, apostle of Krakow and Silesia, as well as Hungary and Slovakia, who lived at the end of the 10th and in the first decades of the 11th century. He was undoubtedly an outstanding figure. His life was written down by Bishop Maurus, who saw him when he was a young boy. St Svirad is also mentioned in several early sources, from which we learn that he was known both north and south of the Carpathians.
