Four stages can be distinguished in the history of the codification of the Constitutions of the Pauline Order: the first is the period from the foundation of the Order up to 1308-1309, when the first codification took place. After a long period of accumulation of regulations, a second codification took place between 1643 and 1646, based on the decrees and ordinances of the Council of Trent. A third codification took place in 1725 and a final fourth codification in 1930, adapting these constitutions to the new Code of Canon Law. This article limits itself to sketching the historical details related to the codification itself and to a general characterisation of each redaction.
