The history of the foundation of the monastery of the Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Visitation Sisters) in Krakow (1681-1699)

Abstract

This work is the first source study of the foundation of the monastery of the Sisters of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Visitation Sisters) in Krakow. The results of the previous research have been thoroughly revised based on the materials of the Krakow Visitation Archive and the Krakow Metropolitan Curia. On the basis of all this data, the actual history of the Krakow foundation of the Visitation Sisters was reconstructed, from their arrival in 1681 to the completion of the construction of the monastery and church in 1695 and the death of Bishop Jan Małachowski in 1699. The work contains a source edition of foundation documents and letters.
