Jarosław from Skotniki „Bogoria” (died 17th September 1376) was one of those notables, frequently met in our Church hierarchy, whose life and activity had a great influence on the history of both the Church and the Polish State.„The doctor of decrees”, educated in Bolonia, he was the canon of Cracow, of Kujawy and Gniezno, also the vicar general of Cracow,of Kujawy and the archdeacon of Cracow, and the archbishop of Gniezno from 1342.He was a distinguished legislator, the author of the first collection of Polish church law proclaimed at the synod in Kalisz in 1357. Hewas a great friend to Casimir the Great, adviser and performer of many diplomatic affairs (he participated actively in the Polish Teutonic Knigths negotiations in the first half of the 14th century). He initiated and probably formulated the King’s codification of the secular law in the form of statutes of Great Polish. In 1343 The Apostolic See made him a papal collector of Peter’s penny.,He built and endowed many churches, among them the admirable,,Gothic cathedral in Gniezno, altars, chapels, brick castles and archiépiscopal mansions. He cooperated with King Casimir the Great in the foundation of the University in Cracow. He was an excellent administrator of the estates of the archdiocese, successfully increased the church’s estate. He founded a lot of populous villages and conveyd old villages on „German law ”, he founded the towns and surrounded some with walls. Historians have commonly treated him as one of the most outstanding personalities of the 14th century Poland.
