Abstract

The article discusses the sociodemographic characteristics of Cistercian communes in Gdańsk Pomerania until 1309. The findings presented here complement and extend the research on the Oliwa Abbey conducted by K. Dąbrowski, F. Sikora and H. Lingenberg. The author also draws on his previous research on the chronology of the lives of the Oliwa abbots and some groups of monks of the abbey. The problem of interpreting the lists of monks was discussed from a comparative perspective, i.e. in the context of data from Pelplin and Bukowo. The author of the article was the first to thoroughly study this topic in a recently published extensive analysis of the censuses of monks and nuns in Gdańsk Pomerania until 1309.
