
The article touches on the attitude of Polish historiography towards Napoleon Bonaparte’s attitude to the question of religion in the broadest sense, first of all - the Christian one, as well as to the institution of the Catholic Church. Attention is
paid to such elements as Napoleon’s religiosity, his attitude towards the Church, especially the papacy, the sacrament of marriage and the legitimacy of power. The bibliographical basis of the text is provided by selected studies by the Polish historians
relating to the figure of Napoleon, his era and Bonapartism, in which the aforementioned
issues were raised, as well as selected sources, complemented by Catholic journalism from the period of interwar Poland.
