The aim of this article is to present the Chełmno dialect and to illustrate the occurrence of the word ‘jo’ in verbal communication among Polish language users. The dialect was discussed based on the literature on the subject. The Chełmno land was also characterized and its location was indicated in order to determine the area where the Chełmno dialect can be found among the local community. An attempt was made to answer the question whether Polish society is aware of the existence of this term, as well as in what situations it may be used. Attempts were made to find out whether respondents could identify the region of Poland where this phrase is known and used most often. The method used for the study was a diagnostic survey. The study was based on a survey technique, and an original survey questionnaire was used as a tool.
