Piarist textbooks for teaching history in Poland in the 18th century

Abstract

The subject of this article is a presentation of Piarist history textbooks.  Undoubtedly, the textbooks of Father Józef Skrzetuski and Father Wincenty Skrzetuski are in the foreground, as they constitute the essential and most valuable core of Piarist history textbooks. However, in order to properly assess their place in the process of teaching history in the second half of the 18th century and even in the first decades of the 19th century in Poland, the author of this article will briefly describe the textbooks available for Polish schooling before and at the time of the publication of the historical works of the Skrzetuski Fathers.
