Attempts to inventory epigraphic monuments in Poland date back to 1655, if we ignore the earlier 70 years of activity of Bartosz Paprocki, who used epigraphic monuments as source material in genealogical and heraldic works. The place of inscriptions as an integral part of works of art has not escaped the attention of art and cultural historians. Numerous monographs on individual monuments or their groups include inscriptions - but always according to the needs of their own scientific workshop, which gives epigraphy the value of the most reliable source illustration. Most often, it involves reading its content and skillfully interpreting it critically. The above-mentioned comments apply to both monographs of historic complexes and individual objects. The result of epigraphic research is the collection of two hundred inscriptions in this study. The inventory of inscriptions from the Krakow area began with Kazimierz and Stradom. The work was carried out as part of a nationwide program for the inventory of epigraphic monuments, and the result is the current notebook covering the area from the Wawel Hill to the Vistula river bed and beyond, the former eastern cadastral border of the city of Kazimierz and the suburbs of Stradom, i.e. in the cadastral area of the former Kazimierz and Stradom. Most of the monuments of Kazimierz and Stradom with inscriptions included in this volume were developed in terms of their artistic value as monuments of art in the work: "Catalog of Monuments of Art in Poland", volume IV, part IV "Kazimierz and Stradom", edited by Izabella Rejduch --Samkowa and Jan Samek, Warsaw 1987.
