The Annals of Sędziwój are a compilation drawn from several sources dating back to the late Middle Ages (1456-1466). The basis of this compilation was the edition of Annalium Polonorum (which I call the Original Annals of Sędziwój), which later disappeared, and what we call its continuation. Other sources include: Annals of the Krakow Chapter, Annals of Krakow, Annals of the Poznań Chapter, Chronicle of Wielkopolska, Chronicle of Polish princes, Chronicle of the Krakow Cathedral, Calendar and memories of Włocławek, Hagiographies of St Stanisław, as well as oral tradition. The author was Sędziwój of Czech, a canon from Gniezno, and then a servant of the regular canons of Kłodawa, a theologian and one of the most outstanding scholar-historians of the 15th century. The Chronicles of Sędziwój were transcribed into the so-called Judges' Code, where they have been preserved to this day. In this manuscript they were corrected, supplemented and interpolated by Sędziwój from Bohemia. The date of correction and interpolation of the Annals of Sędziwój is set by the death of their author, i.e. 1476. The whole thing was basically compiled in the years 1456-1467.
