Andrzej Dorobis was born on November 23, 1815 in Żbików into an impoverished nobility family. After graduating from primary and secondary schools in Szumów and Łomża, he joined the Congregation of the Mission. In the years 1832-1837 he studied philosophy and theology at the Vincentian Seminary in Warsaw. Immediately after graduating - before he was ordained a priest in Grabów in 1838 - he was offered a teaching position at the Diocesan Seminary in Płock (1837). Later he was a lecturer in Lublin (1838-1841 and 1844-1847) and in Włocławek. In 1851 he was appointed parish priest of St. Cross in Warsaw. He was also appointed Visitor of the Polish Vincentian Province and director of both the Warsaw Province of the Sisters of Charity and the Order of Visitation Sisters B.M.V. He held these positions for ten years, during which he founded the Ladies of Charity Association at the Church of the Holy Cross and worked closely with the Charitable Society. He was also the chairman of the construction committee of the All Saints Church in Warsaw. In 1863, Fr. Dorobis moved to Płock, where he taught at the local diocesan seminary. In 1864, the Polish province of the Congregation of the Mission was dissolved by the Russian authorities. Fr. Dorobis took over the parish of Zaduszniki (1864-1873), where he devoted all his energy to building a new church. However, before the construction was completed, at the invitation of Bishop Piotr P. Wierzbowski, he went to Sejny. There he was promoted to the rank of prelate, archdeacon and dean of the chapter. He also served as a judge at the meetings of the pro-synodal court. He died in Sejny on May 8, 1883 at the age of 68.
