Little is known about the first cathedral in Włocławek. It cannot be ruled out that it was created only when the capital of the diocese was finally established in Włocławek, which undoubtedly took place no later than the second half of the 12th century. The first brick bishop's church in Włocławek was built only in the 13th century. The day of its consecration was preserved in a later source from the second half of the 13th century. The consecration of the Romanesque cathedral in Włocławek took place on April 29 of an unspecified year, and the sources tell us to refer this event to the pontificate of Bishop Michael. In this case, the day coincides with the time of the chapter and bishop's meetings, which were later (at the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries) officially recognized as general meetings.
