Pestis Antonini. Reakcja Marka Antoniusza na globalną starożytną epidemię

Abstrakt

Przedmiotem opracowania jest plaga Antonińska, jaka miała miejsce w latach 165–180. Była to jedna z największych epidemii, jaka nawiedziła antyczny Rzym. Poważnie naruszyła fundamenty ekonomiczne i polityczne potężnego Imperium. Celem opracowania jest wskazanie przyczyn tej epidemii, rozmiaru jej rozpowszechnienia oraz skutków. Najważniejsze jest jednak ukazanie reakcji ówczesnych władz publicznych na zjawisko globalnej epidemii. W konsekwencji zostały wprowadzone regulacje prawne dotyczące pochówku zmarłych oraz udzielenia pomocy najbiedniejszym. W pracy autor ograniczył się do analizy źródeł literackich i typowo prawniczych z pominięciem inskrypcji i papirusów. Efektem tej pracy jest twierdzenie, że ówczesne władze publiczne reagowały w sposób dla nich odpowiedni i zgodny z ówczesną wiedzą medyczną.
