The book Egzamin na tłumacza przysięgłego. Tłumaczenie odpisów aktów stanu cywilnego. Język francuski [The Sworn Translator Examination: Translation of Excerpts from Civil Status Records in the French Language] explores practical aspects of legal translation between French and Polish. The guide includes several examples of excerpts from civil status records (birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates) both in French and Polish, extensively commented upon by the authors. The authors focus on the coherence of legal discourse and highlight the main translation challenges: semantic calques, lack of lexical coherence, and formatting, while offering possible solutions. The Sworn Translator Professional Code serves as a starting point in Poland, while in France the regulations currently in force appear to lack specificity. In order to render translation as natural and coherent as possible, the authors recommend using linguistic corpora and already promulgated documents.
