Cases of migration of candidates for the priesthood from their native dioceses were quite frequent in the pre-partition period. Priests from the former diocese of Warmia constituted a specific group among them. They worked in many dioceses of the Re-public of Poland and entered monastic life. Some of them engaged in pastoral and formation work in seminaries in the former Archdiocese of Gniezno. Priests from Warmia were willingly received there because of their knowledge of German, which was helpful in pastoral work among the German speaking minority arriving in great numbers from behind the western border. Information about the priests can be found in seminary records, visitation records as well as in bishops’ books of duties.
