Fr. Ludwik Zaborski was a prominent member of the Pilica Chapter, parish priest of Mrzygłód. He carried out his pastoral activities in the diocese of Krakow, except for the years 1805-1818, when his parish belonged to the diocese of Kielce. He was held in high esteem not only by the ecclesiastical but also by the secular authorities, who in 1817 appointed him the organizer of primary schools in the Pilica district. In this position, during the last years of the Duchy of Warsaw and shortly after the establishment of the Kingdom of Poland, he undertook the work of reactivating failed elementary schools. He began his work with an appeal to the clergy, peasants and inhabitants of towns and villages, encouraging them to cooperate in the work of promoting primary education. He then drew up protocols for the establishment of primary school societies in the localities where schools were to be established. The above records show that most of the school societies in the Pilica district were established in 1817. Of course, this did not mean that these schools were immediately operational. Some of them did not have classes the following year. In order to better coordinate the work of the schools, the territory of the Pilica district was divided into five school districts, headed by elementary school organisers. The above-mentioned solution was very appropriate, because from 1819 priest L. Zaborski was struggling with serious health problems. From then on, the burden of organizing the schools was taken over by the heads of the school districts. However, this did not mean that Zaborski ceased his educational activities, as at that time he was conducting examinations for teacher candidates in the Olkusz district. His commitment to the development of elementary education was noticed by the central educational authorities, who instructed the provincial authorities to convey their appreciation to him.
