The subject of the study is a late Gothic baptismal font located in the church in Żmigród Stary, located in the Wisłoka basin, in the Low Beskid Mountains. In 1325, the parish in Żmigród Stary was confirmed in 1325. Therefore, on the basis of numerous analogies, even from contemporary examples, it can be assumed that first a makeshift chapel was built and only when the parish was completely organized, the construction of the proper parish church began. It was undoubtedly a wooden church. It could also take a longer time to equip the church with paraments, including such an important item as the baptismal font. The baptismal font from Żmigród Stary, which at first glance gives the impression of a huge chalice or a sheaf of grain tied with a thick rope (prominent nodus), is carved from a single block of hard, fine-grained sandstone. The stonemason used two techniques to decorate the stone: relief and engraving. He obtained the carving depressions by carving straight grooves, and the reliefs were created by leaving low hills on the sandstone surface. The monument is rich in numerous representations and patterns. The author assumes that, like the statue of Światowid or the monument from Jaśliska, the baptismal font from Stary Żmigród are symbols of the synthesis of contemporary concepts, views, level of culture, beliefs, knowledge of people and social groups of that time. All this was enchanted in stone, in the form it was given, in the symbols it was given.
