Due to the limited source base, research on monasticism in Slovakia is largely based on the findings of Western European researchers. Research on monasticism in Slovakia also requires understanding its history in neighboring countries such as the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Baltic countries and Scandinavia. The use of a comparative method promises interesting results, as previous research work shows. Despite source limitations, archaeological and historical research contributes to comprehensive knowledge about monasticism in Slovakia. In recent years, international cooperation has been developing, especially with researchers from the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary, which contributes to deepening our knowledge of monasticism in the region.
