The Gothic crucifix, currently located on the main altar of the church of St Mark in Krakow is traditionally associated with the figure of Blessed Michał Giedroyc (1425-1485). The technique of elaborating the torso and the arrangement of Christ's head indicate that the crucifix was originally placed on the triumphal arch of the church. A more detailed formal, stylistic and comparative analysis allows us to date this work of art to the third quarter of the 15th century. The crucifix is a kind of intermediate stage between the heroic type of crucifix from the first half of the century and late Gothic achievements on the same subject, best realized in the Veit Stoss crucifix of Our Lady in Krakow. Crucifix in the church of St. Mark in Krakow can be attributed to the "dark period" of 15th century sculpture.
