Abstract

Many years ago, in the Jesuit Archives in Krakow (which has photocopies and microfilms from the Jesuit Central Archives in Rome), the author came across information about the painting of Anna Omiecińska's likeness by her confessor. It was Paweł Giżycki TJ, a famous architect, creator of the church and the Jesuit college in Krzemieniec. His obituary stated that he was a valued and sought-after spiritual director. He was also the confessor of Anna Omiecińska, who appeared to him after her death, and he not only described this vision in words, but also painted it with colors on paper. This representation was reproduced in painted and engraved copies. It is to be expected that many copies were put into circulation. All engravings show the nun in a frontal position, with her arms crossed. They differ only in minor details and in their form, but each has a differently composed frame, which includes two shields with the coats of arms of Junosza and Radwan, as well as a Latin inscription. Taking into account all the differences (especially the frame and the inscription), an evolution can be concluded, consisting in simplification, i.e. rejection of certain elements of the drawing and the inscription.
