The article is a compendium of historical references to the life and activities of Rev. Wincenty Kraiński, with particular emphasis on the moment of his metanoia, a change in thinking and action. The study provides extensive information on a lesser-known aspect of Kraiński’s life in the field of spirituality. The first part of the article presents Kraiński’s long, yet controversial period of involvement in revolutionary movements and discusses his membership in Masonic lodges. In the second part of the article Kraiński’s spiritual metamorphosis comes to the fore. The change in his self-awareness and views took place under the influence of personal prayer, frequent confessions and awareness of God’s presence in Holy Communion. He also soon discovered a vocation to the priesthood, then was ordained and began a 37-year priestly ministry. The second part of the article focuses on Kraiński’s long period of pastoral activity in Wrocław. The third part of the article discusses the priest’s work at the University of Wrocław. There he was a teacher of Polish, Russian, French, Italian and English. The study was intended to shed a new light on the figure of Wincenty Krainski, showing his transformation, from a revolutionary to a committed priest and teacher, and his impact on the history of Wrocław and the Polish Church.
