Difficulties in the acquisition of language and communication skills pose a challenge for the speech therapist. Speech development disorders have a negative impact on a child's cognitive activities, which is why reliable diagnosis and properly organized therapy are so important. The article deals with the problem of speech impairment of the motor aphasia type. After organizing the terminology related to disorders of linguistic development resulting from damage to brain structures, a presentation is made on the causes and characteristics of the type of speech retardation of the motor aphasia type. The author presents the diagnostic procedure for this type of disorder based on a case study of a 3-year-old boy, and makes a detailed description of the expressive difficulties of the child studied. The article also includes a proposal for speech therapy with an emphasis on minimizing the motor disorders.
